For some time now, certain companies have taken advantage of public concerns about food safety. They've used misleading labels such as "no preservatives" or "no additives" to attract consumers, which has led to widespread confusion and increased fear around food preservatives. Reports show that no major food safety incident—whether domestically or internationally—has ever been linked to food additives. Even the "Sudan Red Incident" that affected the country earlier this year was not related to food additives. Sudan Red is not a food additive at all; it's an industrial dye that some unscrupulous individuals mixed with food products.
Additionally, in past food inspections, it wasn't uncommon for products to fail due to excessive use of additives. To address this issue, the China Food Additives Association has held three consecutive meetings since 2004, aiming to help businesses use additives more scientifically and responsibly. As a result, several new products and technologies have been developed that ensure food safety without overuse.
The association has also decided to establish a dedicated team to investigate cases of industrial damage caused by preservatives and has hired legal advisors to hold irresponsible companies accountable under the law. During the meeting, the Japanese Food Additives Association also engaged in extensive discussions with their Chinese counterparts, highlighting the importance of international cooperation in ensuring food safety.
