Remembrance Rescue Project – FDNY R5
I just came across some exciting updates about the Remembrance Rescue Project and their efforts to restore one of the iconic FDNY rescue vehicles from 9/11. Scott Nacheman, who has been deeply involved in this project, recently shared some photos and details about the progress being made with X-FDNY Rescue 5. This particular vehicle was stationed at the World Trade Center on that fateful day back in 2001 and has now found its way to Northbrook for restoration.
Previously, we had reported on the acquisition of another FDNY rescue truck, X-FDNY R-4, which was also part of this significant historical preservation effort. It's amazing to see how these projects bring attention not only to the brave firefighters who served but also to the resilience and dedication of those restoring these vehicles today.
The latest updates reveal that Rescue 5 has undergone quite an impressive transformation. After being repainted by Capital Truck Body in Cicero, it moved to MPC Lighting in Northbrook for additional work on its lighting systems. Jacquette Custom Lettering has been meticulously hand-painting the original Rescue artwork and adding all necessary striping, ensuring that the truck remains as authentic as possible to its original form.
As mentioned in a recent statement from the Remembrance Rescue Project, the goal is to restore the vehicle as closely as possible to its condition on September 11th, 2001. This dedication to detail really shows in the photos taken during various stages of the restoration process. The images captured by Scott Nacheman highlight the incredible progress made so far, showcasing both the exterior paint job and interior touches that pay homage to the past.
This project isn't just about preserving history; it serves as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by first responders and continues to educate future generations about the events of 9/11. I’m personally looking forward to seeing Rescue 5 make its debut at FDIC in Indianapolis later this month, where it will undoubtedly be a focal point drawing attention to this vital cause.
It's heartening to witness such meaningful initiatives that keep the memory alive while inspiring hope and unity. If you're interested in supporting or learning more about the Remembrance Rescue Project, there are plenty of resources available online documenting their journey and achievements thus far.
