Autodesk’s Industry Collections Are Dropping Their Biggest Updates of the Year

At Autodesk, we're always listening to our customers and working closely with them to ensure our tools meet their evolving needs. Since our software is delivered through a subscription model, we can quickly roll out new features and updates as soon as they're ready—keeping our users ahead of the curve. Our product teams have refined how we deliver updates to better support our customers over time. However, it's still common for major releases to come out within a one- to two-month window. Recently, the latest version of AutoCAD was launched with a range of new features and improved integrations with Box and Microsoft OneDrive. These updates allow subscribers to open and edit DWG files directly from Box or OneDrive, whether they're using the desktop, web, or mobile version of AutoCAD. This time of year also marks an important moment for those who subscribe to our Industry Collections—curated packages that bring together the most powerful Autodesk tools in a single, easy-to-use bundle. Subscribing to a Collection gives you access to streamlined workflows tailored to your specific industry. Plus, AEC and PD&M Collection subscribers get AutoCAD 2020 and its specialized toolsets, helping them design, build, and manage projects more efficiently. No matter what industry you're in, our collections are designed to help you embrace the future of making. By leveraging digital automation, you can do more in less time and achieve better results.

We recently had the chance to speak with several product teams across the company to get a closer look at what’s new in each collection.

Architecture, Engineering & Construction Collection

“Our team’s mission is to support the AEC industry by offering a unified platform that connects design with construction. With the release of Revit 2020, we've built upon the improvements from Revit 2019.1 and 2019.2. Architects will benefit from enhanced wall creation and a new Path of Travel feature for simulating minimal egress distances. Structural engineers will see better detailing for concrete and steel, while MEP users will find improvements in electrical and mechanical workflows. We’ve also added long-awaited features like PDF Underlay and introduced the Cloud Model Upgrade service, which automates the process of updating all cloud models in a BIM 360 project with just one click.” – Chris Yanchar, Director of Building Design Products

“With the release of Civil 3D 2020, we’re excited to introduce Dynamo for Civil 3D—a powerful design automation tool that helps users save time on repetitive tasks. Combined with other new features, this update brings greater efficiency to both design and production workflows.” – Tim Yarris, Civil 3D Product Manager

“In the latest InfraWorks release, we’ve taken a big step forward in integrating BIM and GIS. Now, users can import GIS data from ArcGIS into InfraWorks, make changes, and save it back to ArcGIS. This makes it easier for design and GIS teams to collaborate and share project information.” – Nick Zeeben, InfraWorks Product Manager

Product Design and Manufacturing Collection

“The Product Design & Manufacturing Collection isn’t just about Inventor—it’s about giving customers the power to design and manufacture anything in a seamless way. We’ve integrated Inventor with CAM, Nesting, Nastran, and Tolerance Analysis, all within a single experience. We’ve also created strong upstream and downstream workflows to ensure smooth data flow between AutoCAD, Fusion 360, and more. In today’s fast-paced product development environment, this integration gives our customers a competitive edge.” – Derrek Cooper, Senior Director, Product Design Solutions

“Inventor continues to evolve and improve. This release may be the most powerful yet, offering better performance with large assemblies, faster frame design, and new tools for complex geometry. It also has a fresh look, supports multiple monitors, and includes many productivity enhancements. Plus, with AnyCAD technology, users can work with CAD data from anywhere—whether it’s a 2D drawing from AutoCAD, a 3D file, or a generative design from Fusion 360.” – Jon den Hartog, Director of Product Management

“Fusion 360 is always up to date, with regular updates every few weeks. You can stay informed by checking our blog. But here are some highlights: Generative design is now available to all commercial users, and we’ve added new subtractive manufacturing constraints like 3- and 5-axis machining. We even opened a new lab in Chicago focused entirely on hands-on generative design experiments. There’s also a new learning panel in the software, better collaboration tools, and upcoming UX improvements, especially in the Manufacture workspace.” – Sam Sattel, Senior Marketing Manager, Fusion 360

Media & Entertainment Collection

“Whether you're creating characters for a film or designing buildings, 3ds Max 2020 is packed with tools to help artists bring their visions to life without compromising creativity. The release focuses on quality and stability while introducing features that speed up content creation and let artists focus on what matters most.” – Nic Fonta, 3ds Max Senior Product Line Manager

“Maya 2019 brings a more responsive and creative environment, allowing artists to iterate faster and produce higher-quality work. Features like Cached Playback reduce the need for playblasts, and Arnold updates make viewport previews much closer to final renders.” – Chris Vienneau, Senior Director of Media & Entertainment Products
