Autodesk’s Industry Collections Are Dropping Their Biggest Updates of the Year

At Autodesk, we're always listening to our customers and working closely with them to understand their needs. Since our software is delivered through a subscription model, we can quickly roll out new features and updates as soon as they’re ready, ensuring our users have the latest tools at their fingertips. Our product teams have refined how we deliver updates to better meet customer demands. However, it's still common for major releases to come out within a one- to two-month window. Recently, the newest version of AutoCAD was launched with a range of new features and improved integrations with Box and Microsoft OneDrive. These enhancements allow subscribers to open and edit DWG files directly from these cloud platforms using AutoCAD on desktop, web, or mobile. This time of year is also significant for those who subscribe to our Industry Collections. These packages combine the most powerful Autodesk software into simple, industry-specific solutions. Subscribing to a Collection gives you streamlined access to design-to-make workflows tailored to your field. In addition to top-tier tools, AEC and PD&M Collection subscribers also gain access to AutoCAD 2020 and its specialized toolsets. No matter your industry, our collections are designed to help you embrace the future of making—using digital automation to do more in less time and achieve better results.

We recently had the chance to speak with some of our product teams to get an inside look at what’s new in each Collection.

Architecture, Engineering & Construction Collection

“Our team’s mission is to support the AEC industry by offering a cohesive, multi-disciplinary authoring platform that connects design to construction. We’re excited to release Revit 2020, building on improvements from Revit 2019.1 and 2019.2. Architects will benefit from enhanced wall and curtain wall creation, while structural engineers will see better design-to-fabrication detailing for concrete and steel. MEP customers will enjoy improvements in electrical design and mechanical fabrication. We’ve also added long-awaited features like PDF Underlay and introduced the Cloud Model Upgrade service, which automates the process of upgrading all cloud models in a BIM 360 project with just one click.” — Chris Yanchar, Director of Building Design Products

“In Civil 3D 2020, we’re especially excited about the introduction of Dynamo for Civil 3D, a design automation tool that helps users save time by streamlining repetitive tasks. Alongside other new features, this update brings greater efficiency to design and production workflows.” – Tim Yarris, Civil 3D Product Manager

“With the latest release of InfraWorks, we’re taking another step forward in BIM and GIS integration. Now, users can import GIS data from ArcGIS into InfraWorks, make changes, and then save it back to ArcGIS. This makes it easier for design and GIS teams to collaborate and share project information.” – Nick Zeeben, InfraWorks Product Manager

Product Design and Manufacturing Collection

“The Product Design & Manufacturing Collection isn’t just about Inventor—it’s about empowering customers to design and manufacture anything in a seamless way. We’ve integrated Inventor with CAM, Nesting, Nastran, and Tolerance Analysis, all within the same experience. We’ve also created smooth workflows to ensure data moves seamlessly between AutoCAD, Fusion 360, and other tools. In today’s fast-paced product development environment, we’re helping customers create better products with end-to-end design and manufacturing workflows.” — Derrek Cooper, Senior Director, Product Design Solutions

“Inventor continues to evolve and improve. For over 20 years, it has transformed the way customers design products, and this release may be the strongest yet. Users will now benefit from better performance with large assemblies, faster frame design, and new ways to create complex geometry. The interface has been refreshed, and there are productivity improvements such as multi-monitor support. Inventor is also more connected than ever thanks to AnyCAD technology, allowing users to work with CAD data from anywhere—whether from AutoCAD, another 3D file, or a generative design output from Fusion 360.” – Jon den Hartog, Director of Product Management

“Fusion 360 is always up to date. We release updates every few weeks, and you can stay informed via our blog. But here’s a quick summary of some of the latest exciting updates. Generative design is now available to all commercial subscribers, and we’ve added new subtractive manufacturing constraints like 3- and 5-axis machining. We even opened a new lab space in Chicago focused on hands-on exploration of generative design with Fusion 360. There’s a new learning panel in the software for better onboarding, new collaboration tools to boost team efficiency, and upcoming major UX improvements across the board—including the Manufacture workspace.” – Sam Sattel, Senior Marketing Manager, Fusion 360
