Plastic machinery industry calls for high-tech joining
Director Li Jian from the Plastics Machinery Center of the China National Light Industry Machinery Corporation emphasized that with China's plastic machinery exports surpassing half of its domestic production value, and the domestic industry increasingly reliant on global markets, enhancing the technical sophistication and value-added features of the equipment has become a top priority. China is now the world's largest producer of plastic machinery, accounting for 25% of global output. However, its output value only represents 9% of the global total, highlighting a significant gap in economic value despite high production volume.
In 2005, the total output value of China’s plastic machinery industry reached 18.873 billion yuan, yet this figure was only 30% of Germany’s and 52% of Italy’s in 2002. This reveals that while China has a large production scale, its economic impact still lags behind leading countries. Analysts suggest that the core of press manufacturing lies in providing the most efficient process conditions and routes for plastic products. Innovation in plastic machinery is closely tied to the formulation of raw materials and their processing conditions.
However, due to historical reasons, there is a serious disconnect between industry management, mechanical manufacturing, and product development. Machinery manufacturers tend to focus on importing electrical and mechanical talents and improving machining facilities, while neglecting research into plastic processing technology. Without the ability to accurately understand the properties of different raw materials and their processing requirements, true technological innovation in plastic machinery remains out of reach. To close this gap, a more integrated approach involving collaboration across all stages of the industry is essential.
