Des Plaines FD news (more)

I just received some heartbreaking news from the MABAS Illinois Facebook page. Firefighter/Paramedic Paul Miller's condition remains unchanged—he’s still on life support, and unfortunately, doctors have confirmed that recovery is no longer possible. Following Paul’s own wishes, his family has made the incredibly difficult decision to take him off life support soon. Paul was always such a giving person, and consistent with his generous nature, he wanted to help others even now. His family is honoring his wishes by ensuring that some of his organs will be donated so that others can benefit from his selflessness. This process could take anywhere from 36 to 72 hours. In honor of Paul’s contributions, there will be a short Flag Ceremony today, Tuesday, April 23rd, at 4:00 PM, at the main flagpole of Advocate Condell Medical Center located at 801 S. Milwaukee Ave in Libertyville. A “Gift of Hope” flag will be raised to recognize Paul’s incredible gift of life to others. The ceremony will be led by Des Plaines Fire Department Chaplain David Haley, and all available personnel are invited to attend. The organ donation process is quite dynamic, involving various steps like match testing, notifying recipients, and preparing them—all of which require time. It’s hard to predict exactly when everything will be completed, but it’s expected to take more than 24 hours from now. We’ll keep everyone updated as we get more details. Alan Wax, Fire Chief of the Des Plaines Fire Department, and Tony Huemann, Fire Chief of the McHenry Township Fire Protection District, shared this message. Let’s all keep Paul and his loved ones in our thoughts and prayers during this unimaginably tough time. [Attached are two images of FF/PM Paul Miller.] Rest in peace, Paul. Your bravery and generosity will never be forgotten.
