Des Plaines FD news (more)

From the MABAS Illinois Facebook page: I just received some heartbreaking news. Firefighter/Paramedic Paul Miller's condition hasn't changed—he's still on life support—and unfortunately, doctors have confirmed that there's no chance of recovery. Following Paul's own wishes, his family has made the incredibly tough decision to remove life support. In true Paul fashion—reflecting his selflessness and generosity—a few of his organs will be donated so that others can benefit from his incredible gift. This process might take another day and a half to three days. Today, on Tuesday, April 23rd, at 4 PM, there'll be a Flag Ceremony at the main flagpole of Advocate Condell Medical Center, located at 801 S. Milwaukee Ave in Libertyville. A "Gift of Hope" flag will be raised to honor Paul's ultimate act of giving. The short ceremony will be led by Des Plaines Fire Department Chaplain David Haley, and all available firefighters are invited to attend. The organ donation process is complex and unpredictable. It involves match testing, notifying recipients, preparing them, and other critical steps, which means timing is hard to predict. These processes typically take more than 24 hours from now (around 1 PM today). We'll keep you updated as new information becomes available. Alan Wax, Fire Chief, Des Plaines Fire Department Tony Huemann, Fire Chief, McHenry Township Fire Protection District Today, I’m asking everyone to keep Paul and his family in their thoughts and prayers during this unimaginably tough period. [Attached are two images of FF/PM Paul Miller] This is such a somber moment for our firefighting community. Paul was truly one of the best, and his legacy will live on through the lives he saves even after he’s gone. Rest easy, brother.
