Chicago Still & Box Alarm fire, 11-01-14

This message comes from Eric Haak: Around 4:30 PM on Saturday (January 11th), there was a fire reported at a laundromat located on the 1100 block of West 31st Street in Chicago's Bridgeport neighborhood. The incident was handled by the 15th Battalion, who arrived on the scene after noticing smoke rising from the roof. Eyewitnesses stated that roofers had been working on the building earlier in the day. Firefighters initially attempted an aggressive interior attack but had to abandon it when the structural integrity of the roof began to fail. I’ve attached several images showing the firefighting effort. Engines 28 and 39 were the first to arrive and were positioned in front of the building. Engines 8 and 29 responded as reinforcements. Trucks 8 and 4 were designated as the still trucks, while Tower Ladder 5 joined the operation. Truck 33 served as the Rapid Intervention Team (RIT). It’s always incredible to see how quickly they respond and work together under pressure. I’m grateful for their dedication and bravery. Let’s hope the damage is contained, and no one was hurt during this incident.
