Chicago Still & Box Alarm fire, 7-2-15

It’s Eric Haak here. I just got some photos from a still and box alarm that went out in Chicago around 4 PM on Thursday (July 2nd). The incident happened on the 500 block of South Millard, and it involved an abandoned "Red X" building. Battalion 13 reported heavy smoke pouring out of the second floor, and there were concerns about communication with the "D" side exposure, which was a three-story vacant structure. My pictures were taken roughly 45 minutes into the response. Engine 38 was operating from Central Park and Congress, while Tower Ladder 14 was working in sector "C." It’s always intense when dealing with vacant buildings, especially ones labeled with the "Red X." These markings usually indicate significant structural issues or hazards, making the job even more challenging for firefighters. It’s moments like these that highlight the dedication and skill of our first responders.
