Berwyn Box Alarm, 1-18-15
I just witnessed an intense house fire on Grove Avenue in Berwyn this past Sunday, January 18th, 2015. The incident occurred at the address of 3828 Grove Avenue, and it was quite a scene to see all the emergency personnel rushing in to handle the situation. I managed to snap some photos that really capture the chaos and hard work of the firefighters who were there.
One of the first things that caught my eye was the massive fire engine parked right outside the house, its hose stretched out ready for action. It was a striking image, with flames licking up the sides of the building and thick brown smoke billowing into the sky. Tim Olk snapped that shot, and it really conveys the urgency of the situation.
Inside the thick of it, you can see firefighters working tirelessly to combat the blaze. In one photo, a firefighter is seen cutting through the roof with a saw, clearly trying to get access to the heart of the fire. It’s a dangerous but necessary move to stop the flames from spreading further. Another photo shows a firefighter perched high on the roof, completely surrounded by smoke, looking like a true hero amidst the chaos.
As the fire raged on, other images captured the firefighters doing what they do best—overhauling the scene once the main flames were under control. You can see them checking every nook and cranny to make sure the fire didn’t have any hidden pockets left to burn. There’s also a poignant shot of a firefighter standing after the firefighting efforts, looking exhausted but proud of their hard work.
Outside, the scene was equally intense. Firefighters were stationed around the house, some climbing the rear wooden staircase, while others worked together to ensure the safety of everyone involved. The smoke was so thick that it almost felt like you could reach out and touch it, creating a surreal atmosphere despite the seriousness of the situation.
Overall, it was a harrowing experience to witness, but it also highlighted the incredible bravery and skill of our local firefighters. They truly are the unsung heroes in moments like these.
