Wintrhop Harbor has been added to the site

Winthrop Harbor is a small community located on the shores of Lake Michigan, in the northeast corner of MABAS Division 4, just across the Wisconsin border. The fire department shares its station with the local police department inside the municipal building. This four-bay facility is well-equipped, housing nine pieces of apparatus. Notably, they are one of the few departments in Illinois that operate entirely with Seagrave equipment, including two fire engines and a 75-foot Meanstick quint. Their long history with FWD (Federal Fire Engine Company) units is still visible today, as all their modern Seagrave apparatus feature the classic FWD logo. Except for their ambulances, all vehicles are painted white, giving them a clean and uniform appearance. One of their most notable pieces of equipment is a restored 1949 FWD engine, which is used for parades and special events. This historic vehicle was even taken to Clintonville, Wisconsin, for the Seagrave 125th anniversary celebration. It’s a proud reminder of the department’s heritage and its connection to early firefighting technology. A photo from the event shows the 1949 FWD engine proudly displayed during the parade. Another image captures the officer’s side of the restored unit while it was at Seagrave’s headquarters, highlighting the attention to detail in its preservation. Looking back at the department's history, a vintage photo from the 1970s, taken by Bill Friedrich, shows several of their older rigs. It includes the 1949 and 1952 FWD engines, a 1966 Dodge/Welch mini pumper, a 1963 900 Series American LaFrance engine, a 1973 P-Series Seagrave engine, and a 1974 Ford/Welch squad unit. These vehicles represent the evolution of the department over the decades and reflect the dedication of its firefighters through the years.
