These 12 Schools Inspired Us with Their Winning Submissions for Our Make It Real Challenge

Autodesk recently launched its Make it Real Challenge to encourage maker education among students and educators. The initiative aims to spark conversations within schools and communities about the importance of hands-on learning experiences. This year marks the second installment of the contest, and Autodesk has expanded its offerings to include makerspaces for four lucky schools. These spaces come equipped with advanced tools such as an Ultimaker 3 3D printer, a Dremel DigiLab Laser Cutter, and ten Chromebooks. Altogether, the prize pool exceeds $70,000 in value. Additionally, all participants worldwide, including students, teachers, and institutions, gain free access to Autodesk's software and educational resources. We received some truly impressive submissions, highlighting creative ways schools are integrating making into their curriculums. I’m thrilled to announce the grand prize winners and share their inspiring videos: **Jim Bridger Middle School, North Las Vegas, NV**: Under the guidance of their “super maker teacher,” Jim Bridger Middle School students showcased innovative ideas for utilizing the prize equipment to enhance their educational journey. **Paradise Intermediate School, Paradise, CA**: This school exemplified resilience and ingenuity by demonstrating how they currently create with limited resources, proving that creativity knows no bounds. **Brighton High School, Brighton, MA**: Students from Brighton High School not only shared their design thinking process but also led insightful discussions about the impact of making on student engagement and learning outcomes. **Killingly Intermediate School, Killingly, CT**: Drawing inspiration from classic cinema, Killingly Intermediate School highlighted how common materials like cardboard could foster creativity and proposed how the new tools would elevate their learning environment. In addition to the grand prize winners, eight schools were honored with an honorable mention award, receiving ten Chromebooks each. These schools include Boston Latin Academy in Boston, CLK Elementary School in Calumet, Dr. W. J. Creel Elementary School in Melbourne, Gonzales Middle School in Louisiana, Joseph P Tynan Elementary School in Boston, Mother Caroline Academy in Dorchester, Pittsburgh Langley K-8 in Pennsylvania, and Trenton High School in Ontario. For those interested, more details, including the captivating video submissions, can be found on our Tinkercad blog. We’re excited to see what these visionary students will produce and continue fostering dialogue around the transformative power of hands-on education.
