Introducing the all-new SketchBook for mobile

By Toby-Lei Wang, Product Manager for SketchBook Five years ago, we launched Autodesk’s very first mobile app – SketchBook Mobile for iOS. In just 50 days, it hit over 1 million downloads. What began as a small experiment quickly transformed how digital artists create, brainstorm, and refine their ideas—making it easier than ever to capture inspiration on the go.

The success of SketchBook opened the door for more creative apps from Autodesk, empowering students, hobbyists, and professionals alike to be more productive and expressive on their mobile devices. Over the years, SketchBook has grown to over 27 million users, been showcased at Apple’s iPad event, and even appeared in an exclusive feature with Oprah Magazine. From Nike’s Tinker Hatfield to Garfield’s Jim Davis, the app has become a favorite among creatives around the world. Today, as we celebrate five years of SketchBook on mobile, we’re excited to announce a brand-new version of SketchBook for both iOS and Android—including Intel-based Android devices. This update unifies the experience across all platforms, so you can use the same app on your phone or tablet. With a consistent design philosophy, we’ve introduced new tools that enhance the digital artist’s toolkit: - Layer blending modes like glow and soft glow - Selection tools for precise manipulation and drawing - Brand new brushes, including synthetic and smudge options (a top request from our community) - Dynamic flood fill with solid, linear, and radial gradients - A completely redesigned and customizable UI, including improved Brush and Color Puck controls - An enhanced gallery for better organization and access to your work - Optimized for iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, and iOS 8 Check out the video below to see the new SketchBook in action. The new SketchBook is compatible with leading styluses, including the newly released Wacom Intuos Creative Stylus 2. We're also thrilled to announce support for the Pencil by FiftyThree, giving you even more ways to bring your ideas to life. SketchBook is free to download on the App Store and Google Play. For those who prefer single-platform access, we’ve added in-app purchases—$3.99 for full features, with new packs coming soon. Additionally, we’re launching a new membership option that gives access to Pro features across all platforms, including iOS, Android, Windows, and macOS. The new version also supports Intel-based Android devices. Our goal has always been to help artists create anywhere, anytime. Seeing kids explore art for the first time and professionals like Bobby Chiu and Scott Robertson use SketchBook in their workflows keeps us motivated. We know there's still more to do, and we’re committed to making digital art tools even better and more accessible for everyone. We hope you enjoy the new SketchBook and look forward to sharing more updates soon. To join our anniversary celebration, share your artwork on the SketchBook blog.
