Foton Motors joint venture engine mass production this month
The Foton Cummins joint venture engine is set to enter mass production this month, marking a significant milestone for the collaboration. This engine will be first introduced in the OMARCO light truck model. It has been reported that the assembly of the Cummins 3.8L engine for the OMARCO light truck is currently underway and is expected to go on sale in the second half of this month, with an initial price exceeding 110,000 yuan. This launch represents Foton's first high-end light truck offering in the market.
According to a representative from Foton Motor Marketing, the 3.8L engine paired with the OMARCO is the first light-duty diesel engine introduced by Cummins globally. As a result, this model is also planned for international export as a global product. In addition to meeting domestic demand, Cummins-powered OMARCO models are expected to be exported to 10 to 15 countries this year. The company aims to sell a total of 10,000 units both domestically and internationally within the year.
The 3.8L Cummins engine used in the OMARCO meets the Euro IV emission standards and has the potential to be upgraded for European markets. It offers a fuel consumption reduction of 5% to 7% compared to similar models, while also increasing maximum power by 10 to 20 kW. Furthermore, the 2.8L version of the Cummins engine is scheduled to enter mass production later this year and will also be integrated into the OMARCO lineup.
