US imports of metal cutting machine tools increased by 86.8% year-on-year

Recently, the American Manufacturing Technology Association (AMT) released the latest statistics on the US import and export trade of metalworking machines in June 2011. In June, the United States imported and exported metal processing machines worth 372 million U.S. dollars, of which imported CNC machines were 265 million U.S. dollars, a decrease of 1.2% from the previous month. In the first half of the year, the United States imported 1.36 billion U.S. dollars worth of CNC machine tools, an increase of 99.4% over the 682 million U.S. dollars in the same period of 2010. In the first half of the year, imports of CNC machine tools accounted for 69.5% of total imports.

Judging from the type of product, in June, the US imported 301 million US dollars of metal cutting machine tools, a decrease of 3.9% from the previous month; imported metal forming machine tools, 70.70 million US dollars, an increase of 17.8% from the previous month. In the first half of the year, the United States accumulatively imported 1.606 billion U.S. dollars worth of metal cutting machine tools, an increase of 86.8% over the 839 million U.S. dollars in the same period of 2010; and cumulatively imported metal forming machines were 389 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 58.4% over the 245 million U.S. dollars in the same period in 2010.

In the first half of the year, the growth of U.S. metal processing machine tool exports maintained growth. In June 2011, the U.S. exported metal processing machine tools for 226 million U.S. dollars, including exports of CNC machine tools for 107 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 21% over the previous month. In the first half of the year, the United States exported CNC machine tools worth 571 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 37.5% over the 415 million U.S. dollars in the same period of 2010. In the first half of the year, the value of US CNC machine tools accounted for 43.74% of total exports.

Judging from the type of product, in June, the United States exported 139 million US dollars worth of metal cutting machine tools, a decrease of 26.2% from the previous month. Exports of metal forming machines reached 87.2 million US dollars, an increase of 13.4% from the previous month. In the first half of the year, the United States exported 863 million U.S. dollars worth of metal-cutting machine tools, an increase of 35.9% from the 638 million U.S. dollars in the same period in 2010, and cumulatively exported metal forming machines by 439 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 39.2 percent from 315 million U.S. dollars in the same period of the previous year.
