Liebherr's new telescopic boom wheel cranes come out
Liebherr, a leading German manufacturer, is set to introduce new telescopic cranes and 40-ton mobile cranes with a lifting capacity of up to 1,000 tons. Dr. Ulrich Hamme, head of engineering at Liebherr-Werk Ehingen, revealed that the upcoming model will feature a 9-axis chassis and a 60-meter main boom. This new series will range from the 800-ton LTM1800 to high-end extended telescopic cranes, offering enhanced performance and versatility.
Some existing LTM1800 models have been upgraded with jibs and are marketed as 1,000-ton cranes. The newly developed crane, weighing 650 kg, is based on the successful design of the recently launched 9-ton model, ensuring reliability and efficiency.
In addition, Herkules has partnered with two Malaysian companies to establish MSH Erkules SDN.BHD in southern Malaysia. The company is expected to start production in early 2006, focusing on manufacturing cranes for markets in Malaysia, Indonesia, Abu Dhabi, and neighboring regions. A new office will also be opened in Abu Dhabi. Alongside this, a telescopic boom all-terrain crane with a 40-ton lifting capacity is currently under development.
The LTM1040-2.1, a two-axis crane, offers a lifting capacity between the 35-ton LTM1030-2.1 and the 45-ton LTM1045-3.1. It features a 35-meter, four-section single-cylinder boom that can extend and retract under partial load conditions. With the addition of a 9.5-meter side jib, the maximum lifting height reaches 44 meters. As a replacement for the smaller LTM1030-2.1, the LTM1040-2.1 provides improved performance and flexibility.
According to the German Association of Construction Machinery and Building Materials Machinery (VDMA), German engineering equipment exports are projected to rise by 17% in 2005, reaching 7.2 billion euros. Total sales revenue for German manufacturers is expected to hit 9.7 billion euros, marking a 12% increase from 2004. Export volumes accounted for 74% of total sales in 2005, up from 71% in 2004.
VDMA President Dr. Christof Kemmann highlighted that two-thirds of machinery manufacturers report strong or satisfactory business performance. Nearly 70% of companies expect to maintain 2005 levels in 2006. Kemmann anticipates double-digit growth in exports for 2006, with German construction machinery exports expected to grow by 15% to 4.7 billion euros in 2005, while construction materials machinery sales are forecasted to rise by 20% to 2.5 billion euros.
A key driver of growth is the demand from new EU member states. For example, sales to Poland increased by nearly 40% in 2005. China has also emerged as a major export destination, joining Europe, Russia, and the U.S. as crucial markets for German manufacturers.
Domestic demand remains stable, with construction machinery sales in Germany expected to grow by 3% to 1.9 billion euros in 2005. However, sales of construction machinery are projected to decline by 5%, reaching 630 million euros.
Despite the positive outlook, Dr. Kemmann warned that rising steel prices and tire shortages pose significant challenges. He noted that some customers are frustrated when they are informed that equipment is available but tires are not. Additionally, the long 5-meter boom has an average lifting capacity of 7%. According to initial mechanical data, the LTM1040-2.1 can lift 7.8 tons within 10 meters at a 360° radius when the main boom extends to 30.1 meters. The maximum boom length is 35 meters, with a lifting capacity of 1 ton at 30 meters.
