Home-made automotive software industry stepped into industrialization products to the high end

Two years ago, domestic automotive electronics software achieved a breakthrough from scratch. After more than two years of incubation, the entire car software has further improved and entered the stage of industrialization. At the current stage, what specific results have been achieved; what advantages domestic companies will have in the future competition; and what aspects need to be given importance in the promotion of industrialization. To this end, Zhang Xiaoxian, the deputy secretary-general of the independent research and development and industrialization alliance of China Automotive Electronics Fundamental Software, was interviewed to further understand the development trend of the domestic automotive software industry.

Stepping into industrial products to the high end

Reporter: The basic software for domestic automotive electronics has achieved a change from scratch over the past few years. What progress has been made in the development of these years?

Zhang Xiaoxian: As the company gradually explores the market, the new business model is constantly clear. In 2011, the company took the first step of marketization. After one year's exploration, it achieved industrialization in 2012. This year, related products are further used in mass production of body parts controllers and engine anti-theft controllers of domestic parts and components. The market sales of basic software products have also entered the joint venture and foreign-funded parts and components companies from domestic components.

In 2012, the independent brand in China's passenger vehicle market accounted for 41.9%, which is a large share. Coupled with the boost from the Chinese auto market, the pace of industrialization of domestic automotive electronics basic software is steady.

Reporter: What role does the basic software play in promoting the development of the automotive electronics industry in China? Basic software companies have what competitiveness?

Zhang Xiaoxian: Automotive electronics account for 30% of the value of the entire vehicle, and 70% of this value comes from software. The development of other standards such as the international standard AUTOSAR makes the separation of software and hardware in automotive electronics into a future trend. In this case, domestic vehicle companies and parts and components companies with independent R&D capabilities have realized the role of basic software.

Among the various basic technologies, the basic software has taken the lead in making the most breakthroughs. At present, not only has it been applied technically, but it has also been commercially successful. Car basic software decomposes automotive electronic products through standardized technologies, realizes these decomposed technical products through different suppliers, and adopts systematic methods to realize integration. Basic software can be an important means for automotive electronic product innovation.

For local basic software companies, localization has the most significant advantages and can better serve customers. Local basic software suppliers like Puhua have fully demonstrated their local advantages and thus have been recognized by customers. In fact, it is not difficult to see that those foreign companies that have been successful in China have also made great efforts in localization.

Unmet market means full of opportunities

Reporter: At present, what is the supply and demand situation in the automotive software market?

Zhang Xiaoxian: We have found an interesting phenomenon in the market. Foreign suppliers often say that the demands of domestic customers are unclear, inaccurate and changeable. Domestic customers often complain that the products and technologies provided by foreign suppliers are not open enough. This reflects the disconnect between demand and supply.

In fact, the fact that the market is not satisfied means that it is full of opportunities. The Chinese automotive electronics market needs to provide tailor-made service technology providers, which is a market that has not yet been met. The company can provide customized services according to the needs of customers and grow together with customers.

Reporter: What efforts and changes are there in building an industrial development environment?

Zhang Xiaoxian: The weak industrial foundation in China is a major issue in the construction of the industrial environment. It is reflected in the R&D and technical capabilities of the overall industry. To this end, industry players have started to communicate and cooperate with international peers. For example, PwC has established a good relationship with internationally renowned suppliers of automotive electronic chips and tools, making software and chips and development tools tightly integrated. For customers, the most needed is the combination of localized and internationalized products and services. At the same time, PwC and European and Japanese standards organizations have a good exchange.

In addition, domestic companies generally have a complex of “establishing a national brand”, which often ties up the strategic thinking of the company. Now that some corporate concepts have changed, it is recognized that "building a national brand" should be a result, not a goal. Then he turned his attention to himself and the company did its own work to contribute to the national brand.

Industrialization needs to retain talents

Reporter: In order to realize the great development of industrialization, what aspects need attention?

Zhang Xiaoxian: In the current development of China's auto industry, functions and performance, quality and reliability, and cost are currently the focus of attention. Standardization is an important means to solve these problems. However, the development stage of China's auto industry has left many vehicles and parts companies a lot of work to do in software standardization.

There are three main advantages of software standardization. First, it can solve the problems of large differences in the software structure of various automotive electronic products, many versions of basic software modules, and complex testing. It can improve the quality and reliability of products; second, it can promote automotive electronic products and The platform technology of its basic technology reduces the development and maintenance costs. Third, it can achieve a better division of labor, so that vehicle and component companies can focus on product innovation and achieve better product functionality and performance.

With the continuous development of the industry, I believe that the benefits of software standardization will gradually be recognized.

In addition, there is still work to be done to retain talent. In domestic companies, it is often possible to cultivate high-quality hostages with both technology and services. However, due to the absence of a talent-encouraging mechanism, the turnover rate of talented people is high, and most of them are tapped by foreign companies. How to retain talent is an issue that the industry needs to pay attention to.
