China's LED auto lamp market is increasing by over 80% every year

Automotive lamps are widely used. Until 1990, U.S. HP and Toshiba Corporation of Japan introduced red and yellow high-brightness LEDs of InGaAlP/GaAs structure with a light intensity exceeding 1000 mcd, and Inja/Al2O3 blue and green high-brightness LEDs from Japan Nichia Corporation in 1993. Mass production has paved the way for the LED lighting of automotive lamps.

In 1985, LED car lights appeared for the first time on passenger cars. In 1986, the use of LED high-level brake lights on the Nissan 300zx car marked the official start of the era of LED car lamps. Famous international automobile brands such as BMW, Cadillac, Buick, Volkswagen, Ford, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Mazda and Skoda have successively introduced LED automotive lamps.

LED auto lamps are growing at a double-digit rate each year. The output value in 2005 has reached 546 million U.S. dollars, accounting for 14% of the world's LED applications. In 2000, China used the LED high-position brake light on the Shanghai Volkswagen Santana 2000. China's LED auto lamps and lanterns are increasing at a rate of 70%-80% every year. In 2006, the output value exceeded 100 million yuan.

At present, LED headlamps in the world are in the process of R&D. Conceptual lighting has been introduced and there are no commodities. In addition to the LED headlamps, they have been commercialized and have entered the period of intelligent control of the lights. The level of LEDization and intelligence of China's automotive lamps is about five years away from the international level.

In the future, LEDs will gain wider application in automobiles as the quality of LEDs increases and prices decrease.

Design must take into account both aspects

Directly related to the optical parts of the lights are light source, mirrors and light mirrors in three parts, collectively known as the light group. The optical design of the headlights is the lighting group design of the headlights. The primary considerations for the design of the lighting group are as follows: First, it is in line with the overall structure of the vehicle lamp and the modeling concept; and second, it meets the requirements of the national regulations and standards.

LED light source should be based on the requirements of different lamps on the luminous flux, use different power LEDs to form LED arrays. The reflector is a mirror specially designed for improving the light output rate of the light source and meeting the performance requirements of the light distribution. The function of the reflector is to illuminate the light flux emitted from the light source to the reflector in a certain distribution. The function of the light distribution mirror is to disperse the light reflected by the reflector through the pattern on the light distribution lens to displace or scatter the light to a desired position so as to meet the requirement of light distribution.

For a long time, automotive lamps use incandescent light sources as the reference to determine the lighting design of the lamps and form corresponding software. The norms and standards of lighting are also formulated in this way. The LED light source has its own characteristics. The design and manufacture of LED automotive light cannot simply use the conventional method. It is necessary to modify the design and manufacturing methods of the LED light source, and at the same time formulate the specifications and standards that are compatible with the LED automotive light.
