Bioplastics companies forced to work abroad

November 8 from the China Plastics Processing Industry Association decomposed plastic special committee learned that at present China's bio-plastic products mostly export-oriented, more than 90% of raw materials and products are exported to overseas markets. The domestic market has a very small proportion of sales. It is estimated that in 2009 China's domestic bio-plastic consumption was less than 10,000 tons.
According to Weng Yunxuan, secretary general of the China Plastics Association Degradable Plastics Special Committee, the reasons for this domestic enterprise to work abroad are mainly due to two reasons. First, developed countries such as Europe and the United States have strict regulations on the recycling of traditional plastic products. Environmental awareness and law-abiding awareness make consumers more willing to accept green bioplastics. As a result, the market is getting bigger and larger, and production companies have profit margins. . Second, due to the high cost and high price of most bio-plastic products, there is a lack of promotion of policy environment in China, which leads to the high price of bio-plastics in the Chinese market and difficulties in promotion. Due to market differences at home and abroad, domestic companies are naturally willing to export production.
Another important factor is that, apart from China, only a handful of companies, including the United States’ NATURES and Germany's BASF, can currently industrialize the production of bioplastics. Although there are currently foreign companies planning new capacity, in the past few years, the output of Europe and the United States and Japan have increased very slowly. And most countries produce a single species, the United States, Germany, Japan, Italy and other countries can only produce one or two varieties.
In contrast, in the new century, China's domestic bio-plastics industry has developed rapidly. By 2007, the output of bioplastics had reached 80,000 tons; in 2009, the output had soared to 150,000 tons, which almost doubled in two years. In 2010, China's total bioplastics production capacity reached 250,000 tons. At present, there are already more than two dozen companies in China that can scale production. The scale of production ranges from a few thousand tons to 10,000 tons. There are dozens of universities and research institutes specializing in research and development in this field. At the same time, China also produces the largest number of bioplastics in the world. Some varieties, such as polyhydroxybutyrate pentanoate copolyester (PHBV), polybutylene succinate (PBS), and carbon dioxide propylene oxide copolymer ( PPC, etc. are still unique to China. All of these reasons have prompted Chinese bioplastics to be directly or processed into products, and almost all of them have been exported to foreign countries.
